The Atlanta Journal-Constitution published an article highlighting the Center for State and Local Finance’s work on studying the effects of the Great Recession on Georgia jobs.
In the article, “Three Georgias emerge from Great Recession,” Peter Bluestone , a senior researcher and co-author of the report, discussed how positive changes in the larger Georgia economy have not trickled down to the rural areas.
“It’s largely the shift from manufacturing to service-sector jobs,” Bluestone, was quoted as sying.“As those jobs replace manufacturing jobs lost in Atlanta and the hub cities, they’ve muted the impact of that shift on the economy. Rural Georgia has seen no such shift.”
