CSLF’s sister center, the Fiscal Research Center (FRC), has released its yearly tax handbook and Georgia rankings publications to serve as a concise guide for policymakers and the public. “A cautious budget outlook with an expectation of continued economic recovery” is the watchword for Georgia’s economy in the face of the ongoing pandemic, says Robert Buschman, Center’s associate director.
Despite the economic upheaval caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Georgia experienced a 0.5 percentage point decrease in the unemployment rate in 2019 compared to 2018 and a 6.1% rise in state tax collections through the first six months of FY 2021.
Notable priorities in the Governor’s proposed budget include restoring some funding cut from the current year’s budget last June in anticipation of revenue shortfalls due to the pandemic and education and community health for the coming year. You can download both reports below:
