Welcome to the Center for State and Local Finance (CSLF) at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies.
CSLF is a policy think tank created in 2014 to showcase the school’s nationally-ranked public finance faculty
and share its expertise with the policymaker and practitioner communities. We produces innovative, applied research to inform data-driven policymaking in the public sector and hosts top-notch executive education courses to train the next generation of government finance leaders.
Our economists and public policy experts specialize in four areas of public finance:
- Tax policy and reform
- Economic development and urban policy
- Education finance
- Fiscal health and management
Much of our research is rooted in our home state of Georgia, but our findings have implications nationally. Utilizing academic literature and methods, we produce nonpartisan research that policymakers and practitioners can use to improve communities.
Our executive education program gives finance directors and government CFOs the breadth and depth they need to lead cities, counties, school districts, public utilities and state agencies. Our courses are organized around the pillars of government finance; each goes beyond the basic terms and concepts to dig into the complexities and importance of financial decision-making in the public sector. The Andrew Young School’s faculty, renowned guest speakers, and experts with 30-40 years in the field create a unique experience for those seeking professional growth.
In 2018, CSLF, alongside the Fiscal Research Center (FRC) and International Center for Public Policy (ICePP), became part of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies’ Public Finance Research Cluster. FRC focuses on Georgia state and local tax policy, and ICePP is a global leader in international policy training and technical assistance for fiscal policy, public administration and local government finance. State and local tax research continues to be shared between FRC and CSLF, while CSLF also focuses on its four areas of specialization.
We are a forum for the people and ideas of next generation public finance. As we continue to grow, we hope you will use us as a resource, and join us in the conversation.
Sincerely,
Peter Bluestone, Ph.D.
